GCSE Maths 9-1 Direct and Inverse Proportion
At Skipton Tutors we cover all areas of the GCSE Maths 9-1 syllabus in detail. This week we are looking at proportionality which as part of the GCSE Maths syllabus and is a topic some students find a little tricky. It relies on students having a fundamental knowledge of algebra rearrangement and substitution methods. The topic includes both inverse and direct proportionality and comes up quite often in the specimen papers for AQA, Edexcel and OCR. It is an important topic as it is often worth a lot of marks when it comes up and it is generally deemed a higher level question yet students of lower abilities can learn the methods to answer these questions if taught properly.
In order for students to succeed with proportionality they must first memorise the four equations and then start practicing different question types which present different contexts and ways to apply the knowledge. An excellent resource for GCSE Maths proportionality questions is Maths Made Easy which we highly recommend. If after revising proportionality or any GCSCE Maths topic your child is still struggling with their GCSE Maths and require some additional support then Skipton Tutors can provide excellent academic tuition.
