GCSE Maths 9-1 Factorising Quadratics

This week we are having a look at factorising quadratic questions as these still play a prominent part of the GCSE Maths specifications and can come up in a number of different ways. In the old syllabus questions would often be as straight forward as factorise this quadratics or solve this quadratic equation which meant a student had to factorise it in order to solve it. Now there are algebraic fractions which require factorising as well as quadratic equations where the coefficient in front of the x2 is no longer one, which as a result makes the questions significantly harder. These only appear on the higher tier papers but foundation students will need to know how to factorise and solve quadratic equations where there is no number in front of the x.

As with all of the more challenging topics it is essential that students know the basics before they move on to the more complex question types.
